Henry Cowell - The Piano Music Of
Posted on January 12, 2006 by hcrink

I can't really think of a solo piano record that I like better than this. Recorded at Cowell's home, it has a very intimate sound & consists of him playing and speaking about his compositions for prepared piano. For those of you who don't know, this is the guy who invented the prepared piano - IE: sticking nuts, bolts, screws, etc. inbetween the strings to create strange & otherworldly sounds. An inovation that most associate with John Cage who popularized it. Well, if you could say it really ever became "popular".

This record was released on CD, perhaps with additional tracks — there are 20 on the CD. The link is to the Amazon.com listing. For more entertainment, scroll down to the first customer review to read about one customer who was literally terrified by one track.
