Juri Lipp - laul Sinule
Posted on January 25, 2006 by plkbryn

Juri kicks out the jams with some very strange European beat music on this one from 1968. Although Juri’s life must have changed when he picked up his first copy of Revolver, he obviously never left the old world completely behind. laul Sinule is chockfull of interesting eastern European flourishes—accordion, unusual harmonies, and the whole thing is sung in Estonian. The two stand out tracks are a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” and, my favorite track, a homage to Ennino Morricone drenched in reverb with background sounds of cattle rustling. Salapärane!

.. this is the best ever version of Ghostriders I ever heard… unbelievable!! (Thanks for posting it)
I have this album on a cassette that has worn through… how the heck do I obtain a copy???? any suggestions??? It is one of the more nostaglic albums I have, and I’m sure a closet cult classic
My parents had this album but it has gond to the weyside….
Any direction would be appreciated
I have the album. If I can somehow have it transferred, I will announce it here…
Juri Lipp was a young Estonian in 1968 who became blind and died from diabetes while still fairly young. I didn’t know him personally, but still have his record, and remember hearing about his sad death. Back then, it was so exciting to be able to listen to pop music in Estonian. I can still remember listening to his songs with my girlfriend at that time.

Juri lived in Toronto at the time, and the cover foto was taken by Ants Toi, another young Estonian I remember from the summer camps at the Muskoka Lakes north of Toronto in the late 60’s. The songs are all Estonian versions of popular songs of the time like “Yesterday”, “Sunrise, Sunset”, and “Quando Quando”.
I just obtained this record in pretty good condition. I will trade a CD dub for something from your collection. I collect 50’s-60’s stuff (folk, blues, C&W, etc.).
I bought this album for the cut Ghost Riders In The Sky that two posters have already mention. It is dynamite. I collect different versions of Ghost Riders - I now have 872 different versions!!!!
The Froggy Went A-Courtin’ cut in Estonian is my favorite cut from the LP.

My granny gave me this album when I was 4. Nearly 40 years later and I still have it! It’s shagadelic baby, yeah! Of course for a few years I thought it was cringingly lame, but now it’s got that happy childhood memory cachet thing going. And it is a fun album to listen to. Now if only I had a turntable…
Can’t believe someone else actually owns it. BTW, yer favourite track is Ghost Riders In the Sky. I’m all tingly now, got to get this thing onto CD!
