9th Creation: Love Crime EP

I'm going to go ahead and declare this the greatest modern soul record to ever come out of Stockton, California, based solely on the frenzy my listing it on eBay caused over the course of five days. On the first day, several hours after listing the record, I started to get e-mail after e-mail—from mainly French eBayers—asking for MP3 samples of the tracks "Maybe" and "Love Crime." One person even offered me $500 to end the auction early, saying he had been “looking for [the] record for 20 years.”
Over the next few days, as the bid price shot up into the hundreds and then past a thousand due to fake bidders (then back down to $500 when I cancelled the fake bids), I started to get e-mails like: “Can you burn this to CD for me?” “I can no longer follow this auction—I have bills to pay, too!” “Can you please send me full MP3s of the songs ‘Maybe’ and ‘Love Crime’?” Basically, just a lot of desperate begging by modern soul and boogie junkies looking to get a taste of the potent drug that is the 9th Creation Love Crime EP—and I’ll tell you what, it wasn’t pretty.
Seeing the opportunity to cash in on the 9th Creation Love Crime craze with a scheme of questionable legality, I listed for auction a CDR of the Love Crime EP, complete with a high-quality cover scan, track-listing, and personnel listing, all packaged in a new jewel case. In just three hours, with the help of a certain Italian collector and a fake French bidder, the item was bid up to the seemingly absurd sum of $600. Shortly thereafter, I was messaged by a mysterious eBay do-gooder telling me that eBay was being notified of my activity. (Yikes!) That's when I cancelled the bids, ended the auction early, and awaited eBay's response. Sure enough, a few hours later, I received a rather pleasant warning from eBay, letting me know about their no-tolerance policy on selling recordable media without the copyright to the contents… yadda, yadda, yadda. LUCKILY, it wasn't the account suspension notice I feared might arrive; and needless to say, I learned my lesson—no more bootlegging! (And we'll leave it at that.)
Now back to the auction for the actual record. With a day left and the fake bidders blocked, the bid price sat stubbornly at $500. But then came the moment I was sure would arrive. With three hours left in the auction, the one and only “great collectro” started a bidding war with a Belgian buyer that sent the auction back past $1000 in a matter of minutes. When the smoke cleared, the great one came out on top with a bid of $1075; but in the last seconds of the auction, his high bid of $1700 was bested by the same French buyer who offered me $500 for the record at the very beginning of the auction (I guess he really wanted it). Winning bid: $1,709.99. Considering that I only paid 50 cents for the record at a thrift store six days earlier, I was fairly happy with how things turned out.
Oh, and last but not least (well, maybe…), the actual music on the record, to my ears, sounds like good, mid-80’s soul music (slap bass, slick vocals, synthesizers, etc.)—not $1700 good but what the hell!

Hi, Greg! I agree, Mr. Reynaldo! Do you have an extra chromosome or something? Where do you get off telling amusing anecdotes about crappy records? Do you think this site is some kind of playground where you and your friends get to post meaningless drivel and inside jokes? I mean, jeez! At least tell us something about the music, because that’s the only thing anyone is interested in, here. Just give straightforward information about what kind of boring, crappy, amateur music is contained on that record, and cut out all your shenanigans!
By the way, I just checked out your price guide and I agree with greg again! What are you thinking pricing Damon at $2500?!? Don’t you know that there’s a certain snowboarding fashion icon located in Vermont that would easily pay twice as much for this LP? Are you trying to blow up the spot for any potential shucksters… I mean sellers? Get a life, bozo!

that is the whackest review I’ve read. in fact. it’s not really a review but more of a self-flossing masturbatory rant on how the auction went on ebay. describe the music on the record next time instead of your wet dreams about cash flow.
yet on second read, I can’t help but be, well, aroused by your descriptions, by what it seams you are trying to express—it’s subtle but I feel like you are a man of big ideas… a man who will be paid to express these ideas… inspiring a… generation…

In France, this record is considered a controlled product because it is a guaranteed panty-remover. It’s like pheremones in a bottle except this LP works. That’s why it’s so popular amongst French collectros.

i just had a similar experience with mostly french ebayers that want full mp3s of a particular modern soul record–even after the auction has been ended for 2 days!
and don’t hate on the reynaldo–he’s cool. heck, half of you waxidermy’s just collect records for the absurdity of the covers–so lay off.

This “review” and your “price guide” are ridiculous (and uninformed). Are you retarted? Do you listen to records or just sell them on ebay? My advice to you is too stop collecting records and get into comic books.
alot of the reviews on this site seem to be more about finding (and in this case selling) the record than the actual music on the record itself.
