Infinite Sound: S/T

infinite sound

WARNING: I am not the biggest fan of "Spiritual Jazz" - to me it mostly sounds like freaky smooth jazz, usually with some woman, or Leon Thomas sound-a-like lamenting the death of mother Africa. I just have a hard time taking it seriously. I do however realize that this is an un-popualr opinion. Anyhow, Infinite Sound is pretty decent though. It has a very spare sound - just Bass, Sax, Percussion and some vocals - and they pretty much stay clear of any spiritual laments pertaining to Ankhs, Scarabs, Ancient Realms of the Pharoah, Pyramids, Papyrus, the Nile, etc. Perhaps this gives them less "cred", but I think it's a definite plus. Also, it's on the excellent bay area label 1750 Arch - which is pretty much why I gave it a chance in the first place.

Does this really sound like “smooth jazz” to you???

This is a great album but even better is the one by one of its members, Roland Young. This album is called Isophonic Boogie Woogie and was self released at the end of the 70s and just reissued by a Japanese label. Pioneering live auto sampling recording (in 1978) for Supreme Love vibrations with eastern / cosmic feeling and sanza hypnotism.
Needless to say that I’m a spiritual jazz fan and no this is not smooth jazz.
