Mike Selesia - Flavor

Mike Selesia

This is cool jazz album all the way around. From the black and white hand drawn cover (with its apparent nod to Van Gogh's self portraits and house paintings) to the fact that it came out of Fresno, CA (not exactly a hotbed for jazz) to the handful of styles present (straight ahead, funky, free, and even a raga), this record's got it going on. High quality musicianship, great production, and some far out stoner tracks make this album stand head and shoulders above most of its private peers. Very limited issue (rumor has it that only 300 were pressed).

This is an amazing album. The sad thing is that the artist Mike Selesia does has not received one penny of residual profits. The record company has screwed him by owning the rights.

Yeah, this really sounds great. I’d never heard of Mr. Selesia before I saw this posting several months ago. Has he other records? Does he appear on recordings by other artists?
