Phoenix Sonshine - Shinin’ in the Light (Destiny)

Posted on March 24, 2006 by Ryan

This is a Corona Del Mar, California, based Christian folk-rock album circa 1971. The Phoenix Sonshine are a quartet with one female singer and two guitarists on backup vocals. One song in particular that moves me is "Broken Wing". The first half of the song has a brooding feel to it but with a strong rhythm and deep Jesus hippie lyrics, man (see below). The faster-paced second half begins with an abrupt stop after the last verse, followed by a fast drum break, bongos and guitar licks.

Waiting for the waters to move
Need I prove my life's worth while?
Waiting for the waters to move
Flown me in, I'll give you my smile
Broken wing
Oh, let me fly

Soaring on the wings of eagles

Sitting at those gates I call beautiful
I'll trade you a pencil for a dime
Sitting at those gates I call beautiful
I need His amazing love just one more time
Can't you see I got a broken wing
Oh, let me fly

Soaring on the wings of eagles
Where my song's going to rise
When Jesus opens my skies
I'm going to fly like a sparrow
Gonna fly like an arrow…

Nobody loves you Jesus
Nobody knows the score
Nobody loves you Jesus
Nobody loves you more

Broken wing
Broken wing
Broken wing
I love you moooore…

Thanks for sharing the song. I have been wondering what ever happened to Phoenix Sonshine. Last I saw them was probably in about 1975 in So. Cal.

Please pass this message to Paul Amschler.
I believe I have your old Scofield Bible. Where I found it I am uncertain and how long I have had it is uncertain. It is the smaller black leatherbound
with lots of notes inside and in gold lettering on the front it says Paul Amschler. If it is yours I would be happy to send it to you. Please email me with your address.
