Aura: S/T

Rare bay area funk-rock lp that, while highly regarded by some, does not do a lot for me personally. It's definitely more juiced up than your average Cold Blood/Tower Of Power fare, so I can understand why this might appeal to fans of raw/self-produced funkiness, but it really is lacking in any real depth of songwriting. The tracks that try to break out of the mindless, good-timey, stoner at the roller disco vibe especially fall flat. Overall I'm more and more plagued with the thought that records like these are the dumb hot chicks of record collecting.

Anyhow, I've probably been overly harsh, so I'll leave you with a couple of the better tracks to judge for yourself…

“the dumb hot chicks of record collecting” - so you’re saying that this lp would be popular on soulstrut???

would this lp like a dinner at olive garden? I’ve heard that this is a surefire pantydropper. [/eyerolling]

HAHAHAHA!!! Dinner at the Olive Garden might be a bit much for this kind of record.

ok, I see your point - dinners at a classy upscale joint like the olive garden should be saved for lps you want to bring home & add to your collection - you know, like BOSCOE or something…

I’m big on this kind of music, but didn’t find this one very interesting. It made me wonder what all the buzz is about that surrounds this LP. The cover?

Songwriting’s pretty lame, but I can see why this might appeal to people who are looking for records with ten seconds of really good drums.
