Various: Si, Para Usted

I'm not just reviewing this because I got a free promo. Nor am I reviewing it because Waxing Deep's Dan Zacks (the taste-maker responsible for this CD) is an "e-bud" who I've sent dead birds to. Waxidermy is above such collusion. I am reviewing this because it's awesome. Now, I've never been to Cuba… much less been there climbing across rickety old rope bridges, bribing government officials, risking life and limb to buy records… it is however my understanding that this is exactly how Mr. Zacks came into posession of the choice sides that make up this delightful comp.
Anyhow, any bouts of Malaria or torture at the hands of communists suffered in order to bring the rest of the free world this music are fully warranted as far as I'm concerned. I mean, where else can you hear Latin guitar hero shredding side by side with off-kilter third world disco? It all merges together seamlessly here into one thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. No passport required.

The compilation is available in Canada through FAB, in Japan through P-Vine, in the US through Forced Exposure, Dusty Groove, Other Music and soon, we hope, through Light In the Attic. European, South African, and Australian distribution is in the works.
Look for a special Waxidermy Edition of the compilation! It will be pressed in a series of three and a half on acetate coated burlap and will feature Hans “The Hands” Gimpy, a whino who occasionally passes through my neighbourhood. Hans will cover the comp’s tracks on the Jew’s Harp while tripping on peyote and banging his feet against a fruit box (imported from Cuba). The Waxidermy Edition will be lost before it’s manufactured only to surface 15 years from now when it surfaces on eBay and starts a bidding war. Fake bids will cause the auction to degenerate into WWIII, which will bring on the Apocalypse and, quite possibly, the Rapture. Will you be ready? Buy the CD to ensure that you are.
I rarely buy comps. these days, but when a comp. is as good as this one AND saves you the trouble of selling your own kidneys to fund the purchase of the original vinyls, it’s a must-have.
This compilation is great. I like all the songs, but specially, “Casina y Epidecus” sung by the most popular phenomenom in Cuban music: the duet Mirtha y Raul. They had a TV Programme at noon on Sundays called “Buenas Tardes”. It was the most popular show on TV at the sixties and seventies. They sung their songs with the Cuban band Los Dada, a beautiful Cuban band that sounded like The Birds, and later with the band Los Magneticos. Mirtha Medina later became a great success in the Cuban showbusiness. She is in my opinion, the greatest entertainers in our music. In addition, she is a unique singer, actress and a wonderful vedette.
Thank you Mr. Zacks for this compilation!!!
Ive had my eye on this Comp for a while, Im a die hard Waxing Deep Radio fan. Those samples have only gotten me more excited!

Can’t overemphasize how good this comp is…that Mirtha Y Raul cut sounds like Castro’s answer to Beat Of The Earth!!
