Vince Callaher - Moo Cow Boogie Blues

This 45 is a pretty good piece of late 1950s rockabilly from New Zealand. Back in those days it seems that New Zealand rock & rollers would do songs about anything "Pie Cart Rock & Roll" & "Blackberry Boogie" come to mind. This song written by on Dood Williams (cool name) comes to us on a bovine/agricultural tip. It gives us a rockabilly commentary on being a rock & roll loving farmer with no one but your favorite cow to dance with. Vince Callaher was one of just a number of local singers to attempt this "new music" & this 45 was released on Phil Warren's Prestige label (not to be confused with the US jazz label) which along with releasing a number of local 45s, also held license for many of the US independents of the time. Prestige released many US rock & roll/r&b 45s during it's time of operations. Backing is provided by local country band Will Jess & the Jesters who also had a successful career themselves. I'm hard pressed to think of another rockabilly 45 that covers life in the cowshed & features piano accordian as well.
