Frank Lynch: A New Look At Life

Records with low budget duo-tone covers pressed by high schools with Christian kids sporting acoustic guitars pretty much haunt me in my dreams now. So, yeah, I got a full on boner when when I found this. I even like green. And it’s from Canada so it kinda has that lure of “the exotic other”. Just kinda though. One problem: All this can often lead to a major buzz-kill when you actually get something like this home, play it, and it sucks. In fact, that is exactly what normally happens. This time however I’m happy to say it did not. These are some talented youngsters. While it’s certainly not the next great undiscovered Xian gem, and it’s not a completely solid listen, there are quite a few really strong tracks on here. Take a listen and see for yourself. Thank god for good Christian generosity keeping the church coffers full to make shit like this.

I just picked this up from a local dealer. I really like this record.

Well, unfortunately not every song is good. Side 1 is a really solid listen, but side 2 fails. What I like about the first side is even the bluegrassy songs are really good and mellow.

I agree about it having some dead spots. I just picked up another lp by him in this series from the same woman who had this one. It’s completely acoustic – and like this one, only partially cool.

I took this out to listen again and I have to say “Who Am I” is probably one of the most killer mellow xian folk songs ever.
Frank Lynch also did the “Music For Building The New Earth” or whatever that LP is called.
