Andrew White – fonk update
This was recorded live in Washington D.C. at the “One Step Down” Oct. 12th-14th 1979. Side one starts off with the three part “who got de funk?” Some pretty swingin funky jazz, even starts off with a drumbreak if that’s your thing. Side two Andrew and the group do their take on John Coltrane’s “afro blue”. Overall this is a pretty enjoyable funky private press album that I don’t see mentioned much.

Do you ever find out who got de fonk?
It’s a very good record. There were a ton of sealed copies making the rounds a few years ago. I don’t think there are many left, but it still pops up on ebay occasionally for an affordable price.

He recorded with McCoy Tyner and Weather Report, and I believe he’s also transcribed pretty much every solo John Coltrane ever played and sells them via mailorder.
i actually like the free tracks on here more than the funk
