Benny Hill Sings (?)

Better known for chasing semi-nude women around on speeded-up film, and slapping the little bald fella on the head, much-maligned Brit comedian Benny Hill did this LP of comedy songs for Pye in 1965. Thrill * at his extraordinary takes on The Rolling Stones, Sonny & Cher, and Bob Dylan

* Thrill, because, depending on your comedy threshold, you might not laugh much.

“much-maligned”? I think he’s been aligned correctly in the crap column. This LP however, is great!

Where can I find Yakkity Sax on wax?

That’s Boots Randolph…clogging thrifts across the nation.

On the BBC’s History of Light Entertainment they correctly pointed out that Hill innovated a lot of things in British TV comedy shows, before he rested on his laurels and produced the repetitive output that gets him labelled as crap. So it’s unfair to dismiss him out of hand just because his material had gotten weak in the second half of his career.

I don’t know if the record will come off as funny but he was great on tv.

Hey my old buddy Frank loved Benny. ‘Course Frank was always drunk, but does that mean Benny wasn’t funny…’course Frank though farts were funny. They are, aren’t they?
