Friday Knights – You’re Not A Song, You’re An Album
Here is a pretty unique private press record from Hialeah, Florida of all places (although the band seem to have come from Hollywood, just a bit further up the coast). At first sight I thought this would be a souvenir from a Medieval themed diner or lounge (a la Orlando’s Medieval Times) but I’m glad I was wrong.
The sound is that of a trio playing angular pop rock (new wavey/post punk/prog maybe?) . The guy who sold it to me described it as “sounds like early New Order”, which I think is totally inaccurate but I guess it gives you some kind of context. Somebody here described it as sounding like The Cult in some spots. In any case even if the quality of the music sparked some controversy when I posted this in the sales section, the godawful/brilliant nature of the cover remains a definite redeeming factor. I have never seen this record before and seems like a fun artifact with real musical merit despite its obvious flaws. Here are a few clips. Judge for yourself. From 1987…(Also, you have to love that album name).

CHECK
I’ve just acquired this little obscure gem after seeing it on your site. I can see later Cult references in a couple of songs, like – ‘Still’ and ‘How Much Sin’, which have some kicking alternative guitar riffs and a hint of Ian’s voice delivery. I would describe this as alternative indie rock with driving guitars, melodic arrangements and some keyboard on a few songs. For a limited local private press it has a solid production quality as well. Great find and post!
