Harold Martin & Larry Young Jr – ‘Wild Fire’
Utterly obscure 45rpm single featuring jazz organist Larry Young – released on a local New Jersey label – undated, but presumably from his early 70’s ‘Lawrence of Newark’ phase – once dubbed ‘The Coltrane of the Organ’ – Larry Young is fairly well known as far as cult jazz figures go – this recording however, seems virtually unknown – the label tells us that ‘Wild Fire’ is “from the concerto Black Fantasy” – suggesting an album length work, that as far as I can tell, has never seen the light of day…

Great stuff!!!!!!!
yeah, I really like this tune – it’s sort of low-key, but has a real positive, hopeful quality to it.
so chill, thanx for this one, really blissed out and snuggly…

Yeah congrats on that find, this is excellent.. now you’ve got me curious if a full length of this material exists…thanks.
somebody probably has a reel of the whole ‘concerto’ in their attic or basement – hopefully it’ll be found & issued at some point.
utterly obscure is right! wow.
keep diggin deep,respect
I managed a Harold Martin ~1976 to 1989, later to become John Martin, a pianist from Newark,NJ. He told me he played with Larry Young. I did see a box of old records. I lost touch with Harold around 1992.
