Jim Valley: Family

Here is a taste of ‘Family’ by Jim Valley with Steve Schurr. Jim writes some mighty peaceful and solid songs. Good ones come one after another on this folk-rock set from Light Records. “All Is Well” is off the more rocking first side and has a sound that reminds me of Tommy Flanders or Tim Hardin. The second side is mostly acoustic and contains a suite of short songs that are joined by forest sounds. Very mellow with John Guerin’s drums and Max Bennet’s bass as an added bonus.

  • Is this the same Jim Valley who played guitar in the Viceroys from the Pacific Northwest area in the 60s?

  • Patrick the Lama says:

Yes, it’s the same Jim “Harpo” Valley who was a world famous pop star with Paul Revere & The Raiders.

  • More Jim Valley! More Jim Valley!

I just listened to the entire album. It makes me think that, if Simon & Garfunkel did a gospel album, they would have to have taken a listen (a and lesson) from this album. I say this objectively, although Steve Schurr is my uncle; and Kurt Cobain is a distant cousin. I believe that this album is still relevant today, both among music lovers and Christians.

Ah, the Seattle connection- that is why I’ve seen this around a bit. I have a copy and I have seen it in thrift bins more than once around the NW. It’s good.
