Lejaren Hiller – Avalanche

A jarring and exploratory set from Hiller in which unsettling sounds seem to come and go. Forays into electronci computer music with percussion and tape also lend interest. Definitely covering some interesting concepts in taking existing material, cutting it up, combining with other information and constructing new pieces around it. Released on Heliodor in 1970 but the compositions are from as far back as 1961. An interesting LP from a often under-acknowledged player in the Avant-Garde scene of the mid-20th century.

Would love to hear more of this album… specifically, the last movement of the Sonata for Two Pianos and Tape, which is phenomenal.
