Max S. Sadove, M.D. – Management of the Insomniac

Released in 1960, this is the first CIBA clinical record issued by CIBA Pharmaceutical Products in N.J. and is meant to be “an audio-visual journal devoted to postgraduate reviews of diagnosis and therapeutics.” In his day (and at the time of this recording) Max S. Sadove was rocking out as an anesthesiologist at the University of Illinois on the forefront of giving people drugs to help them sleep better. The first part of his talk, “The Nature of Sleep” gives a brief overview of the sum of knowledge on sleep in 1960 which is fun to listen to but otherwise outdated.  Part two of the talk focuses on which drugs of the day work the best to treat insomnia.  Overall an interesting listen, perfect sampling fodder for your mixtapes and moody loop beats.
