Philippe Nicaud – Erotico…Nicaud

With an artwork by the famous painter “Aslan”, this one is my french Holy Grail. The music is as good as the cover. Philippe Nicaud is a french comedian from the sixties who acted in wack parisian plays. The music go from bossa to jerk or funk orchestra. Nicaud doesn’t sing he speaks, the lyrics are not explicit but there’s innuendo! I think that this lp is musically better than the better Gainsbourg LP from the 70’s. All the ingredients are there: horn, strings, male and female scat over funky breakbeats. A must have for french amateurs or funky beat lovers.

“covergirl” on this record has a breakdown section with camera clicks dubbed over it.

I’m french and i really love a lot of french lps from that period. I like this record very much but to describe it as musically better than the Gainsbourg Lps from the 70’s is a little bit too much for me…ok, “covergirl”, “séparation” and “cuisses nues, bottes de cuir” are really, really good, but some tracks like “la marie des champs” or “la minette de l’archiduchesse” are really cheesy.

To answer pete’s question, no it bears no resemblance to “Ben & the Platano Group”, if you want some french LP in this vein try the self titled LP of a band named “Araconga” released in the 70’s on the Connection/Sonopresse label.

According to moviegrooves.com this one is still up for pre-order. Has it been released yet (maybe a vinyl floating around somewhere)?
