Pina Nevarez: Tu que Fuiste
Yet another lp I picked up when I just couldn’t say no to records featuring a groovy 60’s or 70’s girl on the cover. But this actually turned out to be a better than average pop record on the Mexican Peerless label. As with most records of this sort, there are some ballads that are kinda snoozey, but the uptempo cuts are pretty killer. Some of the stronger tracks mix a spooky minor-key verse with an up-beat, groovin’ chorus – something Spanish pop seems to often use to great effect. Nice production on much of this as well; Cheesey organ, wah-wah guitars, punchy horns – and Pina’s vocals are nice too.

I agree. One of the better Spanish pop records I have heard. Thanks Jeff!

Just a note…I think this song is called “Antes Que Me Digas Adios” – which wasn’t mentioned in the post.
