Quinn Harris – My Mother Said
Sometime between the late ’70s, when he recorded Statements, and the late ’80s, when My Mother Said was released, Quinn Harris lost his mojo.
I want to say that this LP isn’t all bad, I mean, it could possibly be of some interest to fans of cheesy, Christian modern soul, but to say that it doesn’t hold a candle to his work in the ’70s would be to suggest that Michael Jackson is looking a tad unusual of late. It could be the drum machine (which on a couple of track does manage to come up with some funky beats), or it could be Harris’s newfound inability to stay in tune. Or maybe it’s just the tepid, run-of-the-mill Christian lyrics, but whatever it is, Quinn most certainly fell off.

…but what did his mother say?
“You know I’ll always love you dear, but this album stinks!”
post drum machine tracks or youre soft
The Grandma is HOT!
That’s his mother.
lovely. negative feedback on quinn harris. i found this website whilst searching for my favorite ever reynolds recording artist and this is what i find? rubbish.
i’m sure he fell off from recording with hippies in sf, but surely his family work has something to offer us, spiritually.
pr
I’m sure Quinn and his family are nice people, and perhaps questioning their spiritual offerings is unecessary. but this is still some corny-ass music, dude.
If Quinn worked with me, together we could make some great hits. Trying to be a star all by yourself wont make you any brighter. As glorius as Jesus was(is), he still choose 12 disciples to work with. God did not intend for anyone to shine without Him and others. We could have done great things.
People who comment negativly about Quinn’s work have not heard the real Quinn. His recent CD’s are the work of his true soul. In order to process Quinn you will need to know the story behind his early musical endeavors.
I am a douche bag, and I agree. As a matter of fact I looked into Quinn’s new stuff and it proved to be very enlightening. Thanks for saving my wayward soul. Recording in SF was a bad idea. But the new stuff is off the hook. Thanks Again!

It is sad when you find critics who do not know the difference between Gospel and Disco. “My Mother Said” is a gospel C.D.. If you want to judge or critique some of Quinn’s fatback soulful funk, you should listen to his “Dr. of Love” or “Blues and Ballads” CDs.. In the meantime, if you insist on being stuck on stupid, May God bless you for the rest of your lives…… Good Night!
