Randy Loyd: The Moment
What an incredible record…fans of The Youngbloods and Poco should check this out. I was looking for good christian records at a St. Vincent De Paul, found this and took a fifty cent chance. He writes most of the songs and they’re all over the map stylistically. They all gel quite well. Check out the familiar Breeders guitar riff that comes in about a minute and a half into SONG FOR REBECCA and the vibes on JUNE MARIE for a sample of THE MOMENT.

Nice score; “June Marie” is especially hip. Loyd also had a 45 – “Running Low in Reno” – that has a cool big production Hazlewood vibe to it. I had no idea he had a whole album to his name…
That makes sense…about half the songs were written in 70/71 and the others in 76. The earlier ones have some of that big production – almost loungey but with some Denver dust.
I PLAYED DRUMS ON THIS RECORD, GET GUYS, ALL THE BEST.
I recently got a copy of this and thought it was unique and impressive enough to warrant a review, only to find Steve beat me to it. This sh*t is all the way rad. Really pro-sounding production too, not at all what I was expecting from the cover.
I’M JAPANESE.I HAVE THIS RECORD.
I LOVE A-1″THE MOMENT”?SWEET BOSSA TUNE?
Wow! What a cooooool site this is!! I direct a choir at a very cool and open church. I will be getting tunes for us to do here, I can tell…(for sure we will do the tune from the Vanguard Singers about the Three Kings) and I will be getting a LOT of inspiration from some of the gems here. This site itself is, for me, an undiscovered treasure.
Thank you :)
just saw that Rick Schamach is playing guitar on almost all tracks on that album.
anyone knows if this is maybe the Richard Schamach of Eden’s Children (had two albums on abc records in ’68 and’69)?
Is this the same Randy Loyd as
Randy Loyd &The Family Reunion?
I was going through some old stuff after
my inlaw passed away and found a card
with that bands photo and all of their
signstures. It has Alexis Smith in the group.
Also has has Lee, Johnny and Neil.
Any info would be great.
Thanks
I worked nights for Hertz at Stapleton in early/mid 70’s. After work we would hit all of the lounge bars and got to know a few of the bands. We got to know Randy & family very well. I have this album but haven’t heard it in years since i don’t have a turntable.
