Sakura Teng: S/T
Sakura was a popular multilingual female singer in the Singaporean go-go/rock scene during the 60s and 70s. On this particular LP, she covers James Brown’s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”, which is dominated by a loud fuzz guitar. The Thai surf group, The Quests, provided the rhythm on Mrs. Teng’s songs for many years before this. However, some other anonymous band is responsible here. Upon Google research, Sakura is still alive and kicking, even though she recently retired from her on-stage career. Her daughter, Amy Ting, is an aspiring actress who starred with her mother in an award-winning indy film called Miss Wonton in 2001. Shortly after its release, Amy narrowly survived the second World Trade Center attack an in response, enlisted in the U.S. Army. Wow.

Fantastic. One of the best Singaporean funk tracks i’ve ever heard.
I believe that the Quests are Malay. Would love to find a copy!
I m live in singapore and The Quest is the most popular 60’s psych/ pop group in singapore. The lead guitarist is Reggie Verghese and he has a couple of albums solo and produces lots of other bands in Singapore. The Quest is also a back up group for Rita Chow, another 60’s ago-go singer. If you are looking for The Quest LPs to tell you the truth its very very scarce in Singapore.
For those who interested in knowing more about The Quest, please visit this website. http://progressive.homestead.com/files/quests.txt
