Skip Bessonette: Live @ Ship Ashore

Burly dude rocks a seafood restaurant with an almost unsettling zeal. That people sat and ate lobster while this man ripped through “Barefootin'” (is that a kazoo I hear?), and a totally harrowing 11+ minute Neil Diamond medly is not something I can sleep at night believing. I haven’t even played the 2nd side.

Does Skip opens up for Ronnie Brown?

i thought this was the best drummer ever and then realized it was just a one man band. he should have at least thought up a more elaborate contraption than a hi-hat and barely mic’ed kick drum.

I never heard Skip at Ship Ashore but I wish I would have. He is one of the best around singing songs of the American West. I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying listening to anything he sings.

  • I turned this up in a dollar bin a few years ago, and that kazoo on “Barefootin'” and the Neil medley kill me everytime.

May be a stretch, as I know writing demos may’ve floated around, but to me it kinda pre-dates Neil’s “comeback” Rick Rubin album in stripping things to the core.

Same joints I pick out when I pull it from the racks for folk. Good lookin’…
