Steve and Ed: Dream Song

A surprisingly good folk-pop lp on the vanity label Century that I picked up recently due to my “leave no stock cover behind” compulsion. The notes say it was recorded in a Los Angeles area church, and it has a sort of cavernous low-fi sound quality that I quite enjoy. Very soothing Simon & Garfunkel-esque harmonies on most tracks, with sparse, acoustic heavy arrangements. Recorded in 1975, but tracks like “I Love The Rain” could easily pass for late 60’s to my ears. The majestic, spoken title track is nice as well.

I concur! I just got a copy of this for 3 bucks at a record fair and I’m enjoying it immensely. Favorite cut so far: The Dream That Never Was. Listening to this has inspired me to coin a new phrase that might become part of the private press lexicon some day: one take drone folk. I’m going to feature this album on the 12/18 edition of my private press radio show Butterfly Mind (7 pm central time podcast on riverwestradio.com, Milwaukee if anyone wants to hear it in it’s entirety).
