The Lovelites: With Love from the Lovelites
The Lovelites were a young, Chicago-based vocal group who gained notoriety in the late 1960’s for their song about teen pregnancy called “How Can I Tell My Mom and Dad.” The other songs on With Love from the Lovelites have a similarly emotional and youthful quality, with the themes of teenage romance, love, and heartbreak running throughout.
Producers Clarence Johnson and Johnny Cameron provide the perfect musical backdrop for the group, expertly mixing soulful and funky elements, and matching the tone of the music with the tone of the lyrics.
My favorite song from the LP right now is “I Love You (Yes I do).” The steady three-part vocal harmony throughout the track gives it a unique sound that I can’t get enough of. In the end, though, it’s hard to choose an absolute favorite track because, really, every song is a winner.
My obsession with this record has decreased a little recently since purchasing the original, after only having an mp3 copy for a while. And with my obsession with owning the authentic object out of the way, now I can truly focus on the music, which becomes more captivating and beautiful with each listen.
Audio:
“I Love You (Yes I Do)”
“Oh My Love”
“I Don’t Want To Cry”
“You’ve Hurt Me Now”
“How Can I Tell My Mom And Dad”

Wher have U been. I purchased this LP when it first came out 69. I was a senior in HS and it was love at first sound. I don’t play it much anymore do to time constraints and the pops and hisses, but I have been trying to find it on cd. I went to David Nathan’s website and bought the greatest hits but was disappointed. Help me please to find and purchase this gem. A No. 1 LP in any area. My fav, “this love is real.”
Can you tell me if the lovelites recorded that may be titled something like “I’m In the Love (with the guy next door)” and “I gotta let you go boy”. My friend played them for me but he has no indication of the artist. They sound like the lovelites
Doug, “I’m In Love” and “Gotta Let You Go” are indeed Lovelites songs.
Joe,
My copy of the LP is near mint.
I always heard that a guy from a high school (Sumner)in St Louis helped them write the song, “How can i tell my mom and dad that i been bad” Can anyone tell me if it is true. Man when that song came out everybody in our school were talking about it. Man that was one of the first songs back then that took us for a loop. Listening to that song will bring bac soooooo many memories. Thank you. P.S. I would love to know what happened to those girls.
