The Singers – S/T

This little 10″ record by the all girl band The Singers is one of the most entertaining pieces of vinyl I own. Everything is right about it. One side has covers of tunes as Bang Bang. The other side has the Indonesian blend of pop and Krontjon music. The western side has a lot more spice and kicks off with their signature tune Land of 1000 Dances wherein the band members are introduced to us and where we are introduced to some of the cutest screaming ever put on record. The Krontjon side has a cool psychedelic instrumental.

    i don’t get it, are all these songs from indonesia? or from indonesians living outside the country? because correct me if i’m wrong, but wasn’t there a prohibition on all western-style music for several years after independence? or maybe i’m talking about another time period…
