Sufi Choir: S/T
From 1973 this is the first record by this quasi-eastern, quasi-religious, Bay area ensemble. I’m not exactly sure what the function of the Sufi Choir was, but they sound like a cross between a high school choir, and a hippy commune jam session. Don’t let that somewhat unappetizing description put you off though – there are some truly inspired moments on here. Particularly haunting and beautiful is the sparse bass and vocals only track “Crazy Jane on God”. Though privately pressed, this seems to be a fairly common record – in the bay area at least.
Great cover art too!

Me gusto mucho!
I have this album. Need to dig it out & give a listen, thanks. (I live in the Bay Area).
They used to play around in the early 70s at the little hippie folk clubs in Marin County, like the Sleeping Lady in Fairfax. still alot of patcholli oil in the air up around there.
The Bay Area did give us the Flamin’ Groovies so all is not lost!
butiful
This record quite unique. I’ve heard their later material and it is just okay. I like the sparse/ stripped instrument quality of the lp. Very recommended. eb
I had that album. I loved it. I haven’t seen it in years when I looked up today at a bee trying to get into a flourscent light fixture and I said it is trying to get to the sun.
The Sun The Sun a line from one of the Choir’s music. I would so love to have a cd of that album.
a boyfreind of mine had these two way back when i loved them and love to know if i could get any form of copy.
