Universe: S/T
One of the better random thrift shop finds of the year for me so far, and one of the best and weirdest Christian lp’s I’ve heard probably ever. Genuinely spaced out and progy in a crude and good way (especially for the late 70’s). Slightly reminiscent of Silver Apples at times, and pretty cosmic all the way through. You’d actually hardly know it’s Xian at all if not for the overbearing imagery on the sleeve. It appears to be from southern California.

damn awesome cover!
Yeah…this cover makes me think the land of God is a Willy Wonka land of gum drops and lollipops!
best placed letters ever on this cover!!! “universe” feels great in this green bubble …
this is killer…it’s all over the map! that insistent hi-hat really draws you into the spin cycle. jesus holds it all down.
added to wants list.
jeff, shoot me an email. -mr. mccurdy
That “We Ought To Be Here” is like a deluxo Patron Saints/Eric Bergman …. very real and curious stuff. Crink – track these guys already! ^_^
Yeah, interesting stuff. What’s the label & catalog # ?

just saw this
this cover is making me wanna work on some art dude!
I just got a copy of this LP… it really is good, and not new agey/spiritual at all… it’s a psychy late 70s synth-rock LP with AOR, s-sw and new wave inflections, sounding almost like Marcus-House Of Trax at times… good vocals, excellent recording quality…could be a big deal if hyped to the right ears. Thanks again for the heads-up.
Jeff Sharlet says the little guy on the right is fundamentalist former presidential candidate Gary Bauer.
WOW!
Please, Patrick, can you tell the label & catalog #? I can’t find any reference…
Thanks in advance.
Yeah, it’s PBR #7002, from LA 1977. This was a “real” record label, not a private press thing, and released a grey-area Beatles interview disc among other things.
Thank you. I’ll try to find it. I liked so much what I’ve heard…
Just scored a sealed copy for under $35.00. Really extraordinary, all things considered. This one gets shelved with Glass Harp, Fraction, The Excursions in the category of rock too acid drenched and just plain good to fit inside of one religion.
