Kind of a hard album to describe – a bit too horny to be "folk funk", but a bit too whussed out to be "horn rock". It would seem that "the Tabac" was the brainchild of producer Sonny Casella – who, in the liner notes, reminds us that "You got to dig it to dig it". Anyhow, one of the highlights here is definitely their cover of the Beatles "Get Back". A very cool version in the sea of less than inspired Beatles covers one must wade through when dealing with marginal records of this era. Most of the other tracks here are not quite as outright funky, but they do have a cool, beat-heavy sound with a singer/songwriter meets Stax/Volt sort of feel. All in all, it's actually pretty decent and soulful for a record made by people that look like 70′s Jr. High School teachers.

I enjoyed working on this recording with Sonny Casella 235 years ago. I did the jazz guitar solos. I wish it was mixed hotter.

Don’t know much about the Tabac, however, I knew Deidre on a very biblical level…along with hundreds of others no doubt.
That girl sure could sing. Too bad she never (as far as I know) got her due musically speaking. Especially when you consider the talentless over-produced, pretty girls who couldn’t hold Deirdres thong (not that she wore one).
Hope shes alive and well. The Bronx, Broome Street bar, drums, California, Philadelphia and me. That’s enough to refresh her memory, should she ever read this.
I would imagine you’d think me long dead by now…however, I’m still going strong, hard as a rock, and all that.
You know who this is.
