Shore Doesn’t Sound Like Them Hippies Does It???

A lot of sounds wafted through the trees around Woodstock in the 70's but the longtime locals mighta been scratching their heads this time. Half recorded at home in the hamlet of Willow, the rest at Bearsville Studios and submerged out featuring BENNIE MAUPIN, JOHN ABERCROMBIE, DAVE HOLLAND, MICHAEL FELLERMAN & MICK GOODRICK alongside JD, each side centers around a lengthy opening number with a brief interlude following and capped off by a wind up. "Sorcery #1″'s slow, patient and cool with space between the sounds…muted guitar and drums weave seemingly aquatic undulations; snakey clarinet rises atop it all as the current builds with thick patient bass ebbing the flow before everything converges as a final maelstrom. "The Right Time" voices only freeking leads into a skewered groove titled "The Rock Thing" with pretty nutz guitar happening while the others come and go as it self-collides, effectively ending the first side. Flipping it over, "The Reverend King Suite" begins meditatively tho ascending energy sets the aural candle flame fluttering wildly during the squall before dissipating into a breeze, finally dissolving as peaceful afterglow leading to "Four Levels Of Joy" with its' melodic keys and hand drums. "Epilog" vanquishes the spell, coming as close to mainstream as the Lp gets while still fittingly cerebral.
