Glaser, Solomon, Clayton, and Contini: AEIOU

Ultrasound Records made this lp in the mid 70’s devoted to teaching vowel sounds to children. An artifact of the era that would have most likely stayed buried in the graveyard of kitsch had it not become known for the funky breakz of the long E song. But aside from all of that, this is definitely one of the better kids records I’ve heard – granted, you have to judge stuff like this by slightly different standards. The whole thing is pretty listenable, and the backing music is absolutely killer on a few tracks – check out the short I song for some cool Moog. It seems to me that this must have been an especially effective teaching tool, cause, after only two listens, I’ve had these songs completely burned into my mind. Gotta love the cover art too!

  • Oh,I am finding much musical gemstones on your site, Heir Waxidermy. I myself enjoy producing the occasional informational musical by-product, wherein one has sound gaiety but also infuses some learning. So you have fiber and delicious chocolate, and then there is no guilt. So I am bouncing and making happy with above records, and at same time am feeling good responsibility for learning more sounds of my adopted homeland. Am thanking you again.
    Sincerely,
    Heinrich Mahler

I think they were trying to go for Joe Raposo here. Close but not even near the humidor. Raposo would have blown them out of them stadium. Nice attempt though; listenable. Reminds me of a lazy day on The Electric Company.
