GRAVELPIT: SnowGlobe – Rockadelic RRLP36, 1999

This record certainly affirms the boundless parameters of the Rockadelic Records label and it’s “open to all those worthy” release philosophy. The group GRAVELPIT were a very talented group whose single Rockadelic album release seems to project equally in lyric and song, an ample dealing of post damage recovery vibes. In short, victory despite it’s spoils. An entertaining set of cerebral subculture snap shots in random if you will, of various “over comings and risings above” permeate from it’s central ideal. The guitar, via it’s excellent production and best described Hard Neo Psychedelic overtone, has a very mind altering & mood founding quality. The musicians skillfully unite their well focused support by blending musical strengths making the transcendent nature or vibe of the music all the more “in your face intoxicating” and unavoidibly direct. It’s obvious these guys put some serious time into the rehearsal and the writing of this well done and recorded material. As the songs progress throughout the album their emotional methodology is moving & clear to say the least. Whereas SnowGlobe’s conveyance to the listener is not so intelligent that it bares out a dry “no fun in loss” sociopolitical kind of doom, it does however consistently retain an easily followed, fast paced & intriguingly heavy listen. Lost to the voyage of listening to GRAVELPIT’s contemporary “Snow Globe” exposé, I can’t help but repeatedly be bumped back to the surprising reaffirmation that this is a Rockadelic release. I certainly don’t mean this with any narrow line of thinking, but it is WAY different than most titles we are familiar with that come from the revered heady historical esoteric Rockadelic stock. It’s damn good contemporary Hard/Heavy Rock with an absolutely certain non imitative Psychedelic overtone. It’s too bad, although quite typical of the industry’s mental midgets, that this group were not pursued and pushed vigorously via major label scouting, involvement and promotion.

Excellent Musicianship, Top Notch Indie Production (although a little hot on the cymbals) & Unique Well Crafted Song Writing make for a SOLID Recommendation.
