Hailu Mergia and the Walias – Tche Belew

I picked this up in Springfield, MO on a recent Ozark vacation. A great little store called "Stick it in Your Ear" had this staring at me from the $1.98 piles near the front. I didn't even notice that Mulatu was a sideman on it until i got home. Great all the way through, but this track "Musical Silt" just jumped out of the grooves…enjoy!

    i can’t believe you found this at my spot. i skipped hitting there this spring, never found much there, tripped out place. dude sells a ton of that “clean urine” drink, maybe a dozen people bought that stuff while i was in there last time. no more records in the ozark, you found the only good one, GREAT FIND !

  11. Any chance on dubbing a copy of this for the board, Steve? I’m a big Mulatu fan, and wax like this is very difficult to find.

    wow, i’m amazed at the response this has gotten! ap has even informed that this looks like a raer and expensive record. he’s been my point man on these issues for years, it’s good to know. i was just excited to get a eithiopian pressing. kinda of like finding my first brazilian pressing years after hearing david byrne’s brazil comp in ’88. i’m still learning how to create zip files for posting whole lps. if anyone can help this mac user to do it, i’ll be posting this and more soon!

    I hit that spot a few months ago as well and found some nice stuff!! Ask ap, he bought alot of records from me that came from there ;-)

    One of the few incense record shops that Ive ever been to that was decent.

    Steve! This is some heavy African percussive funk jamb–kookier and dance-steppin’ in an off-kilter fashion than even Fela. It’s music to cook to while in a speedo, smoking a cigar, and juggling mangos. I love it! Mac users can use Spin Doctor by Toast.

    Ethiopian TV HAS LIVE RECORD OF THE WALIAS BAND WITH and HAILU MERGIA. I hope one day those clips would be available for all music lovers to enjoy.
