Joseph Geczy – Bananas

Joseph Geczy is a pianist, composer, arranger, and conductor who moved from Hungary to Canada in 1969. Apparently already accomplished in Hungary, he continued his work in Edmonton, Alberta releasing a number of singles and even opening some Commonwealth Games. Bananas was his first album (1979), and as the back states consists of “all Geczy originals, the selections cover the spectrum, from disco through ballads to jazz-rock.” This is probably the oddest local record I’ve found, musical genre wise. The album, containing about 60% absolute terds, has three blazingly awesome and haunting songs, featuring interesting synth arrangements and funkish rhythms.

I used to sing with Jospeh Geczy in Edmonton, and I am interested in getting in touch with him, but don’t know how to find him. He may be in Toronto. Can you help? Thanks.

I’ve got a few Geczy 45s … I wonder how one would get the list of players on these recordings?

Googling on Joseph Geczy, I found him living in California and pursuing a career in financial management. What a loss to the music world. He is however Grand Organist for a Freemason group there. I used to love sitting by the piano in the Lounge at the basement of the AGT Tower when he played.

Not sure if your a relative.
Joszef Geczi, my second cousin, is a member of the Hungarian Parliament and looks almost exactly like my older brother William.
We have many relatives in the Mesozemplar area including Elizabeth and Michael Geczi related to my grandfather Joszef Geczi (born in 1891)
    Thanks
