Karlis – naked lies

karlis

Pretty sure only a couple hundred of this oddity were put out. Hailing from Ohio, this came out in 1994 but sounds like it came out 20 or 25 years earlier. Musically this record is all over the map. Eeerie synth stuff melds into basement garage rock. Then the next song will sound like Ween huffing bottles of scotchguard. My favorite track on here is probably "Ask the Angels", total snotty song that wouldn't be outta place on a Nuggets or Pebbles comp. My least favorite tracks are the ones where the lady in the group does lame poetry over spacy backdrops, it just sounds like they are trying way too hard to be "trippy" and it falls flat for me. The music is just as homemade as the cover, I imagine they consumed alot of drugs while making this record. Overall though, this record is just okay, it's not a very cohesive listen by any means.

i seem to remember this was a project from al simones, a psych collector/dealer from ohio who also released some limited private stone psych albums full of killer guitar under the name of simones.
