Mossy Davidson – northwind calling
Here’s a double lp by Mairiis “Mossy” Davidson on the small label “north woods”. This was recorded in Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle, Washington. This is a nice rural femme folk lp with a really mellow vibe to it. Mossy’s delicate vocals and acoustic playing are accompanied by recorders, the homestead flute, piano and steel guitar. From the liner notes: “For me Mossy is incomparable. She is herself, unique- like the songs on this album, which have a special way of touching people. These songs are true Alaskan folk music, a very personal expression of the joys and dreams, beauty and solitude of living on the last frontier- songs of love for the North Country, of pioneers and fishermen, wild places and changing times.

I have found this page late Jan 2007 through the Hype Machine, and downloaded this one song. Both my husband and I love it very very much, and we really would love to get the whole album. But in 18 months we did not find anything! And I am really crawling blogspots all day, everyday (not kidding). Still not found.
I googled it today again, and still, this seems to be the only mp3 being ever been posted.
Who has the complete album? Who would sell/share/trade a copy?

Hello again, I am happy to anounce that I have now found the complete album, even on CD!
I got it from the artist herself, who has some copies left of the 1997 CD (remastered of the 1977 DOLP). It is really fantastic!
I would like to thank you, because without this blog (and the introduction via Fox Sparrow) I would not even know anything about her.
Anyone who likes Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Melanie Safka or Cheryl Dilcher, will love this album too. I am sure!
I believe that Mossy is one of Yule Kilcher’s daughters and the aunt of the singer, Jewel. Her father taught my daughter to play the “homestead flute” (a piece of copper water pipe cut to a specific length on which one can play harmonics much as one can on a bugle).
I met Yule at an Elizabeth Kubler Ross conference on Death and Dying (she was also Swiss) and, as the wife of a doctor, arranged his appointment with an Anchorage physician to investigate his heart problems. We visited Yule’s homestead the following summer and I wired it for electricity.
I met Mossy and bought one of her albums at the time. I wonder if they are still available?

Apparently, her niece is the singer Jewel. I hear the similarities.
It’s an incredible album. My parents bought Mossy’s album on vinyl when we lived in Anchorage in the early 80’s (82-85), and finding that it had been brought out again on CD ten+ years ago was one of the greatest things ever.
I’m sure I’ve listened to this album five hundred times over the last nearly 30 years.
