Port Authority Soul Band – Together

While by far the best Port Authority lp, it’s still only about half good. But, the good half is pretty killer! There are about three good uptempo funk tracks with femal vocals that almost remind me of the Dap Kings, a decent instrumental, and my favorite track “Can’t Get Down If I Can’t Get Up”

This was the U.S. Navy’s band and they would cut records to promote gigs and for recruiters to give away. As far as private press records go, Military band records seem to have been pressed up in fairly large batches & distributed pretty widely as most are not too hard to come by. This one however seems to be a bit more rare, probably due to demand.

    Hi
I’m the saxophone player on the Together album. Glad you liked (most of) it. Me, too. Not perfect but when you consider I had been in the band for exactly three days when we cut this and the budget only allowed for two six hour recording sessions it’s pretty good. We could have done better with more time. The original material had never been performed live and in fact was never performed again after the recording session. This truly is not representative of the best this band ever sounded but is the best recorded example. We had an eight track studio at the Navy Band but unfortunately Port Authority was far down on the priority list for studio time. This edition of the band was never recorded in the Navy Band Studio. Wanna guess why?
