Rene Roussel – Rubriques

Ok, so I realize this is sort of going against the grain of most reviews on here, but I couldn’t resist posting a (dare I say) PROTO Italo/house library track (yes, these actually exist). The release date on this was not included but it had to be either 1979 or 1980 (probably ’79 – after looking at a few of the release dates from nearby MP2000 catalog #’s). Either one of these years, I still find hard to believe.

Caramel is the track which immediately jumps out at you – i guess it was intended to be used as montage music from some French sports TV special, but instead is about 7 or 8 years too early for the Chicago house scene.

Sure there are some heavy doses of formaggio on here, but it’s the charming type (to me at least). “Manigance” is the perfect example – starts with some pretty bland synth leads, but then eventually phased arpeggios enter along with more house chords.

I think everyone is still hung up on those Janko Nilovic records on this label so if you see this around don’t be afraid to snag it!
