Rex Holman – Here in the Land of Victory
“Victory” was the inital release on the obscure Pentagram label (a subsidiary of Jubilee). In between a busy acting scheduling, Holman recorded this interesting mix of country, blues, and eastern influenced psych-folk. His voice is heavy on the vibrato, reminding me slightly of Tim Buckley. Copper Kettles is one of my favorites from this album (love those little delays and the sparse keys — haunting stuff). “Debbie” is another good one, a bit more uptempo than the previous track.
I kind of wished they used the back cover for the front. The trademark psychedelic quadruple-exposed imagery is cool I guess but I’d much rather see a dude meditate next to some hobo passed out in a park instead.

I heard one track on the website of the recordlabel Synton that released this obscure record and bought it and it turned out to be a nice surprise..a typical 60-70ies
hippie singer songwriter with touches of jazz and
some eastern influences.Tim Buckley ,as somebody mentions above , indeed comes to mind but to me it seems early Gordon Lightfoot was also a big influence.Been playing this one in my cd shop and most people who hear it, at least ask who it is.
There is nothing spectacular about this record but somehow it touches me by it’s honesty…actually it’s addictive…be warned…Marc from Belgium.

This is something of a magical gem compared to many other records in the same field I think. Apart from every last song on each side of the LP it´s quite astonishing.
