Ron Bucknam – Hints

Spaced out experimental music on the obscure Daagnim label, recorded live at the 1979 New Dallas Arts Festival in Dallas, TX. Here, Ron plays guitar and piano; (Heinasirkka) Dennis Gonzalez plays trumpet, cymbals, various small instruments and is pictured playing the cello on the back cover and Jim Hunter plays the upright bass. The three also make use of percussion instruments such as tablas, berimbau and Moroccan clay drums, all of which are demonstrated on the two and a half minute "Handblown". The fourteen minute opening title track (cut down to 5 minutes by me) is my favorite, which features a solo from a 'duhexaphone'. According to Dennis, this is an electronic, flute-like children's toy. All in all, this makes some ethereal, night time listening. The Denver Westword has a nice, detailed article about Ron Bucknam here. Check this lengthy interview with the equally talented Mr. Gonzalez, as well.
