The Chandra Dimension (unreleased) EP

I refused to believe it was true until Chandra sent me a copy of the master tapes. An unreleased Chandra EP? This time with full teenage backing band and production from Steve Alexander and Eugenie Diserio of The Dance? After Chandra released her Transportation EP she formed a band consisting of herself (who at that time was 14 I believe), a 12-year old girl on keyboard, a 15-year old boy on drums and a 17-year old female bass player. Eugenie and Steve played percussion and guitar respectively as well as helped in production. At the time of recording (1982) the band, now titled “The Chandra Dimension”, had been practicing for about a year and performed live a few times. They went into the studio and recorded the second EP live, with little to no overdubs.Musically it is the perfect extension of the Transportation EP. A wonderful view of the post-punk/no-wave scene from the perspective of a group of talented teenagers. Chandra’s writing improved and she maintained her command of the genre. Personally I think it’s better than the Transportation EP but it is difficult to compare the two. They both contain that trademark Farfisa organ, Chandra’s authoritative voice and her lyrics, so relevant to kids but written with an intelligence that doesn’t push away the adult listener but pull them into her world. The EP remains unreleased and Chandra is willing to entertain the idea of reissuing it. A nice vinyl reissue of her Transportation EP along with the unreleased Chandra Dimension EP would be the perfect package. Thankfuly, a reissue is in the works!
