The Elois – By My Side

This is a monster of a slice of mid-60s Australian garage rock. I haven't researched that much about this 45, but I do know that it will melt your speakers! (check out when the pummelling guitar riff comes in about 3/4 of the way through) The flip is their version of "I'm A Man" that also has it's moments (specifically when the lead guitar starts killing it). I believe that "By My Side" is an original by the band but I don't know if they released any other records.

Struth, throw another shrimp on the barbie & listen below!!

    Wow – rare 45!

    I have to make do with the crappy bootleg edition, but one day…..

  2. The Elois didn’t release any other 45s, etc. Howeve there are three unreleased tracks which will be released unto CD quite soon.

    They are;

    1. IF YOU DON’T WANT ME NOW (LIKE EARLY MASTERS APPRENTICES ROCKIN BALLAD)
    2. SUNSHINE & HAPPINESS (WILD FUZZ ACID-PSYCH!!)
    3. HUSH YOUR MOUTH (FRANTIC FUZZY BO DIDDLEY COVER!)

    Cheers

    It doesn’t take anything away from how great this track is- but that label scan is the bootleg repress. There are close up label scans of an original and this boot on popsike.com and this is clearly the latter.

    Definitely…all I can think is that the label scan changed. I distinctly recall poring over the popsike label scans and being 100% sure…and there’s nothing here now that would have even led to that initial ‘that doesn’t look quite right’ thought.

    Aah geekery. Anyway, I now retract my quibble. The central ring in the photo is in exactly the right place relative to the text. It’s an OG, no doubt.
