The Lovelites: With Love from the Lovelites

The Lovelites were a young, Chicago-based vocal group who gained notoriety in the late 1960’s for their song about teen pregnancy called “How Can I Tell My Mom and Dad.” The other songs on With Love from the Lovelites have a similarly emotional and youthful quality, with the themes of teenage romance, love, and heartbreak running throughout.

Producers Clarence Johnson and Johnny Cameron provide the perfect musical backdrop for the group, expertly mixing soulful and funky elements, and matching the tone of the music with the tone of the lyrics.

My favorite song from the LP right now is “I Love You (Yes I do).” The steady three-part vocal harmony throughout the track gives it a unique sound that I can’t get enough of. In the end, though, it’s hard to choose an absolute favorite track because, really, every song is a winner.

My obsession with this record has decreased a little recently since purchasing the original, after only having an mp3 copy for a while. And with my obsession with owning the authentic object out of the way, now I can truly focus on the music, which becomes more captivating and beautiful with each listen.

Audio:
“I Love You (Yes I Do)”
“Oh My Love”
“I Don’t Want To Cry”
“You’ve Hurt Me Now”
“How Can I Tell My Mom And Dad”
