The Other Side Of Sugar And Spice

The funny thing is that while buying the big stack of lesbian records that this came with I can recall lamenting to my girlfriend that, while I continue to buy any homemade lesbian record I encounter, I’ve yet to find one of any actual musical merit… nor did I really believe I ever would. And yes, I’ve heard Linda Tillery and Baba Yaga, and all the Olivia junk. I am after the real private lesbian experience full of dark misunderstood suffering, damn it.

Well, I found it. There is scant info on this lp, but it would seem this was some woman’s collective or something – as it sounds like many artists are present throughout the sides of this double lp. A lot of it is acoustic and loner-folky, but one of my personal favortie tracks on here gives Kenneth Higney a serious run for his money. The whole thing is quite good though. I do however fear that with this small validation under my belt, my quest for the authentic lesbian experience as captured on vinyl will only worsen.

This is awesome. Where doth I coppeth thee?

  • hcrink says:

I thought you’d apprecite it. As for coppething, it’s from Mass. (all these records seem to be either from there or the bay area, huh?) So, try hollering @ yer E.coast dude/ettes.

No offense, but this sounds like a 2nd rate ‘Cowgirl in the Sand’ knockoff.

You say it as if that weren’t enough?!?!?!

do you still have your copy?

I agree, this track is brilliant

I beg to disagree with your bashing of Dykefolk or lesbosploitation tag. Give Woody Simmons Oregon Mountains a whirl (Grey Today and Banjo Raga are wonderfull) or Even the Pshych Funk of Buddah signing Isis first album a go .

When you listen to dykefolk, you’re looking for a world without men. What makes you think this is a lesbian album? There’s a man singing on it. Most lesbians would take the needle off on the first bar they heard him chime in on. Gitcher fax strait.

i’d check out jenny hoyston and will whitmore’s album “hallways of always.” it’s much better than this.

also 2 good lesbian record labels you might want to look for when you’re looking for “lesbian records” are chainsaw records and mr. lady records. there are other ones too, though.
