The Witness Four – The Witness Four

The Witness Four were a Auckland, New Zealand based Gospel group from around 1969-1970. This LP is a private release on their own Damascus label and was recorded at Zodiac Studios in Auckland sometime around 1970. The LP is a mix of gospel, folk, pop and jazz. The members of the group were: Bruce McGrail (piano/bass); John Hemmingsen (drums); Peter Hart (trumpet/bass); John McGrail (guitar/bass) and Wayne Froggatt (vocal/guitar). Liner notes were written by John Hawkesby who would later find fame as a Television personality. There are a wide range of sounds attempted on this LP and to give some indication I have included the piano led gospel/jazz cut “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” contrasting with the folk cover of the Gary Davis track “If I Had My Way”.
