“Why should the devil have the best tunes?”. Apparently Martin Luther was the inspiration for the “folkmass”, which was an attempt at reforming the “mass” into the modern, folky era. From this, and further descriptions on the back, I had high hopes for this album. Alas, I was fairly dissapointed. The majority of the album […]

Extraordinary, unusual, original …
First and foremost you should know that this record does not live up to it’s awesome cover. But actually, I really have no idea what a bearded man praising the lord with a Moog should sound like, so maybe I’m being unduly harsh. Anyhow, I was hoping for better, but for some reason I still […]
Richard gives me the “no” feeling. Yet, his face is so mesmerizing.
I was finding this record all over the place when I first moved to the bay area. I like it, but I once enthusiastically sent a copy to my friend Daniel and he told me he was unable to listen to it because the cover frightened him. I guess it’s not for everyone. Swami guy […]
Colby is a robot who’s programmer input the entire Bible into his memory. When Colby gets excited about a particular verse from the Bible he makes a song out of it. Colby’s memory goes missing when an anti-robot member of the group of Colby’s friends Nick twists some dials on Colby which deletes his concept […]
More than just a weird cover, as Mr. Allen seems to have actually been a pretty weird man.
A German named Hans Kary moves to Berkeley, experiences a vision, and becomes a devotee of Krishna. He then changes his name to Hansadutta Swami, starts wearing aviator shades, and becomes a traveling monk playing bad folk.
I really just don’t know what to think about this one…
I try not to get too carried away with featuring records that I have never owned, but I will probably never ever ever own this one, so whatever. If knowing that I do not actually own an original pressing of this hinders your enjoyment of reading about it on the internet may I suggest you […]
Crazy electro-reggae, which sounds kinda scary, but everything is right about this lp. It’s hard to explain, but it really does sound like all of the goodness you could hope to expect from Cluster playing strange reggae and stuff. Such an awesome record! [audio:rastakraut.mp3]
Good question.
The cover caught my eye on this one so I gave it a spin. Surprisingly cool xian album from 1971 done by an 11 piece band. Seven guitarists, a lone female organ player and the rhthym section holding it down. Listen
Really solid Xian folk/pop lp from late 60’s West Covina, CA. Seriously, this guy could kick both Jonathan & Charles’ ass’ & still have the strength left to sit down & write a nice jazzy Jesus folk ballad about it. I know it is the spirit of the times to call stuff like this “psych”, […]
That wacky Jesus is at it again! Here he is stopping a man in the middle of the road & using the bible to convince him to run off & leave his wife & family. If you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it a thousand times.
On October 9, 1973 the entirely heterosexual fishing expedition of Charles Hickson & Calvin Parker was unexpectedly interrupted by a flying egg shaped craft. Three used condom looking creatures forced hickson on to their ship, examined his body, and then returned him to the wharf, unharmed. “If this is true we should throw away the […]
Yikes! This has to be one of the most disturbing covers I’ve ever found. Completely uninteresting musically though. This is the back cover, BTW.
