JJ Perrey & Pat Prilly – Moog Expressions
The first father-daughter electronic library record? I can get with this. I’m sure most of you who read this site are already well aware of Jean Jacques Perrey, one of the biggest names in the 60’s moog scene. Well apparently his daughter (a musician herself), would join him in the studio and relay song ideas to him for his library recordings (check this interview to read more about that). Because he was such a nice father he would credit these records to his daughter.
Thankfully this LP does a great job of not falling into the cheesy moog-exploito coverfest genre. Space electronics freak-out which sort of reminds me of the Songs of the Second Moon LP by Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan. You’ll have a hard time listening to this and not imagining a bustling space station from the year 2060. File under: essential moon music.

the phrase ‘contractual reasons’ possibly best accounts for perrey opting not to release ‘musique pour l’image’ under his own name, but attributing it to his daughter patricia. some years ago, i worked with perrey & montparnasse 2000 to reissue a selection of the sound library back catalogue. the result, ‘good moog: astral animations & kosmic kartoonery’ was released in ’99 if memory serves.
+ yes, the comparison w/ tom dissevelt is apt. perrey cited ‘song of the 2nd moon’ as an influence, & was certainly one of the lps in carrol bratman’s broadway studio where perrey created the initial recordings for vanguard.
