Happy Rappin’ Christmas

I have been freaking out the last couple weeks trying to find this, er, “gem” in time to post for Xmas. I tore through box after box, knowing that I’d set it aside just for this occasion, but it was nowhere to be found! I gave up a few days ago. Of course, today I found it in a random box. Yay!

The day I found this at the thrift store was kind of crazy. Someone had dropped off a couple of boxes of records earlier that day… all Korean pop/rock releases from the 80s and 90s. I’m sure that I don’t look in the right places, but I almost never find records by Korean artists. What made it really weird was that one guy had beat me to it: a super square looking middle-aged Korean man. I didn’t get a record collector vibe, just a normal Korean man. His English was pretty rough, but as I frantically flipped through the stacks next to him, he stopped me to ask, “You collect Korean artist?” I nodded, trying to see what he was adding to his stack.

I didn’t have a clue. Some of the covers looked cool with new wave or psych flourishes, but it was blind buy city, and I ended up handing most of my stack over to Korean man fearing for weak K-pop or worse (which later turned out to be the case for everything still left in my stack!). But at the end, I made sure to go through his rejects, and was stoked to find this LP amongst them. Korean Christmas Rap?! This is better than I ever could have imagined!
