The Skoings – Doctors Wives / Do The Orbit
Sole release from this L.A.-based band circa 1977. I’m guessing UCLA students from the contact address on the back cover, and sounding a bit like a crunchier Devo, without the synths. Not quite punk rock, though I first remember seeing the sleeve pictured in a 1978 L.A. Times article about local punk singles. Doctors Wives is the standout track to my ears, though the flip is pretty fun too. Released on their own Vigilante Records, with band photo on the label and pressed old-school style with a big hole.

I have this record and love it!
I was the lead singer on “Doctor’s Wives” – thanks for the review…
Wow, I’ve run searches for the Skoings for years with no luck. Thanks for posting! My roommate at college had this 45 and we really loved it! Doctor’s Wives is genius and the flipside Do the Orbit we attributed to John Glenn. He was very, very indulent and couldn’t tie his shoes! Where do one come up with that! I would really love a copy of the actual 45 – anyone got one?
Jim, check on ebay or Discogs.com. There are multiple copies for sale as of this morning. Glad you enjoyed the post!
