Various – Cumbias Y Gaitas de Colombia

Housed in an incredibly nice cover with a unique pre-historic Flinstone vibe (the drum, the model, the hair…), this record contains several outstanding cumbias. I thought the following cumbia (eh, or Gaita?) from this record is a nice one to post because it features a great hot-jazz guitarist who at one point goes out of his mind.

    Congratulations. Your page is great.

But, Can you put the names of the songs in the mp3 you share?

  • milan says:

Not in this case. I’m separated from my records at the moment and took the track from an old CDR.

This is the total tracklisting however that I found online, maybe someone can figure out which track it is:

    1. CUMBIA CIENEGUARA
    2. CUMBIA CAMPESINA
    3. LA MAGDALENA
    4. SOLEDAD
    5. OCASO MARINO
    6. CIGARRON COLORAO
    7. CUMBIA SAMBRANERA
    8. TABACO MASCAO
    9. NOCHE DE ESTRELLAS
    10. LA CEIBA
    11. CUMBIA SINCELEJANA
    12. LA SABROSA

This is good, it sounds quite different from alot
of Latin music I have heard. Somehow it manages to be quite distinct, and yes the guitarist sounds like he wants to make his presence known.

Hey there. This song is “Ocaso Marino” by Los Satelites. My parents are from Colombia and I grew up listening to this music. This album was always one of my favorites ever. This song is great, but my favorite track has always been “La Magdalena”. Discos Fuentes released these albums on CD a while back. I have all three volumes, and there are some strange omissions and substitutions. There is no “La Sabrosa” and the versions of “Soledad” and “Tabaco Mascao” are vastly inferior on CD. But the song you shared here is present in clean digital form. Now I’ll be looking for the entire album online to fill in the blanks, but thanks for the taste!

I have the 3 editions of this album (Colombian “Fuentes”, Mexican “ECO”, American “MIAMI Records”) I don’t know if there are any another edition,… it’s a special album to me because it contains several beats of Colombian Folklore, it makes me dance as a crazy-man lol, absolutly recommended album.
